Materials to make our imaginative playground: We combined materials to make lots of things. Stick men Cars Lamps Boats We designed a city to fit all our wonderful creations and later used it to write a story! Shape Challenge: using playdough and toothpicks to make 3D shapes. Visit to Grade 1 Classrooms in preparation for bigger and challenging experiences.
Houses: We watched the story of the 3 little pigs. Then decided to try to build our homes using straw, wood and bricks to test if we could 'huff and puff and blow the house down!'

We are all Superhero! But superhero's wear capes. We tried on capes made of different materials to find out which was best suited for a superhero. HAPPY MOTHERS DAY! Our mummies will love the cards we made! We used 2 materials to make it special for our mummies. We made the paper to make the card and used clay to make pendants!

Properties of Materials: So now that we know which materials are waterproof, we designed our own boats to see if it sinks or floats in water! Daily 5:
After seeing and hearing it been made we got to eat the popcorn. We had so many words to describe a popcorn! We can use describing words in our writing and when we are retelling our stories after reading. Unit of Inquiry: How The World Works Central Idea: Different materials are used for different reasons. Hammer made out of sponge and straws! Ms Hima created a hammer made of sponge and straws and told us to hammer nails into a piece of wood! We thought that was so silly. Keshav: It's too soft. Eiji: It is not strong. Then we wondered what should we use to hammer the nails? Amanda: A heavy rock. Charlie: Rock should not be heavy, we cannot lift it then. Eiji: Bone Reyansh: Tools Esther: Harder hammer. Then we got to see the real hammer. We observed that it was made of Reyansh: Handle made of tree. KueiYen: Wood. Keshav: Metal We then had a go at hammering the nails.

Can you answer the question? --- --- --- --- Did you say Tuesday? Oh Oh! Think again! It will be Wednesday! We looked at the globe trying to find if it was daytime in Singapore would it be day or night in our home country. We also learnt how the earth spins slowly and as the earth spins and moves aaway from the sun it becomes night. Charlie was very thoughtful and asked, 'My Smita, if the Earth is spinning, we will all be dizzy!' Mikhail added, 'How can we stand if it spins? We will all fall!' We all wondered? Ms Smita said that the Earth moves very slowly and we cannot feel the movement. We don't fall down because the earth has something called gravity which keeps us from falling.
Earth Day!
The grade 1's took the initiative of implementing the Earth Day celebration at school. They requested us to not to use electricity from 10:30 - 11:30 am. We turned off the lights and the aircons. Later we had our lesson outside. What do we play in our home country? Moving forward with our inquiry and making connection we looked at games played in our home countries. We discovered that although they may go by different countries, we find versions of these games in many different countries all over the globe. Ms Smita showed us how to play an Indian street game called 'Lagori'. A game of seven stones. Olivia, Archan and Keshav shared the Australian 'Boomerang'. Jiwoo and Ella taught us a Korean game called, 'moogoong hwa cote' (red light green light when played in english) and ' nam dae moon'. 'Nam do moon' is played in England too! We sing 'London bridge is falling down' when playing the same game said Esther! Amanda showed us how to play 'diu shou juan' (A- tisket, A-tasket)Eiji got a board game, 'shogi' which he plays with his mummy. Sofia, Gaku, and Sota said that they have this game in Japan in their houses too!

Data: We collected data of our favourite colour and birthdays of our fiends in K2. We found that Golden was the most popular colour and was liked by 5 friends in the class. July was the month which had the most birthdays in K2 and the month of May had no birthdays! Literacy: Trade a word:
