Art and stories: We created beautiful pictures with Ms Hima over the past week and used that to recite a story. The picture could be the beginning, middle or end of the story! Show and Tell: When Vivaan got the telescope to school we all wanted to see the world through the lens! We could not see other planets but did see some leaves which were far away! Grade 2 Market day fun! Hula-Hoop Competition! We were being risk-takers and committed trying our very best with the hula-hoops! Congratulations to Advaith for winning the competition! K2 Assembly! We have been looking at how people in different cultures use dance as a form of expressing their emotion. We presented some of these dances at the assembly! We worked with a lot of commitment, empathy and tolerance towards each other, building our communication, cooperation and team-work skills! And a well deserved treat after!
Lion Dance! Patterns: We worked at identifying the unit in a pattern and then counting the number of units in the repeating pattern. Magic e! The watched the story of the magic e. The magic e made the other vowels strong and game them so much power that they started saying the own name. But after giving away the power the magic 'e' became weak and so became silent:( Mindful moments in class!

We went on a pattern hunt in the school and made lots of patterns with objects we found in the garden. FORMS of dances to express emotions: We looked at the dance from India called Bhangra which was performed during the harvest festival as it bought them JOY and PRIDE! Ms Rehu came to demonstrate and teach us about Haka dance from NewZealand. It is a dance which bring out emotions like SCARE and ANGER.

Welcome back to the New Year!
We were all so excited to see all our friends again, to share all our stories. This week we have been revisiting our routines in the school. We looked at the rules that we need to follow in the playground, classroom and corridors. We also revisited our Literacy routine of Daily 5, how we choose the book and how we could be responsible and build our Daily 5 stamina. Mathematics: This terms focus is to get stronger with numbers and number bonds. We have started challenging ourselves to solve number problems. Positional language is another aspect of Math that we are learning about. Taking turns, communicating, working together at the same time having fun! Grade 2 buddy reading: The grade 2's had made lots of books. Some were information books and some were story books. Class Party Happy Holidays!
Word building fun! Archaeologists at work! Excavating and studying dinosaur fossils. Team building: Cooperating, communicating, thinking and taking turns! International Day!
What happens to the soil when the trees are cut? We went around our school to look at the soil around the trees and at the soil where the trees were cut down. We discovered that the soil was very loose where the trees were chopped. After reading the book Rainforest by Helen Cowcher we understood that when there are heavy rains, it results in floods. Since there are no trees to protect the water all the soil gets washed off. To understand this better we first made our very own roots on twigs and planted them. Then we imagined that they were roots of trees that were cut. After that, we sprayed them with jet water. What happened? The soil washed off. It was flooded. Everything got destroyed. Everything is broken. We should not cut trees. We will also die and go away with water.
Field Trip: Natural History Museum Here we saw lots of animals, birds and insects. We saw the skeleton of the dinosaur. We also saw the Dodo bird. They are both extinct. But when we looked at why they became extinct we found that dinosaurs became extinct due to natural reasons, but, the dodo birds became extinct due to human interaction. People hunted them adn their eggs were eaten by the people's pets. That's why there are no more of these birds. What can we do to take care of our planet? Blend and stretch: We have been looking at the strategy of blend and stretch. It will help us read and spell the words better. Combine numbers to 10.
Playing lots of different games has been helping us to count and use the 'counting on' strategy to combine numbers. |
