This week, we have been thinking about making a healthy snack. We came up with lots of ideas!
Making a pepperoni pizza, fresh fruit salad, fresh fruit juice and soup. We got into 2 groups and discussed what would be best snack to make. Group 1 decided they will make fresh fruit juice and group 2 decided they will make fresh fruit salad. We then had to decide, which fruit we would like to use, how we were going to make it and what utensils we would need to carry out this task. We joined with K2.2 class and we all did it together, cooperated and worked as a team.
"It made us feel good, happy and eating a healthy snack is good for our bodies," said Athan, Grace and Riei. Our snacks were delicious. We had enough to share with everyone!
We also had our school nurse visit all of K2, and tell us all about the importance of washing hands before eating food, touching food and after going to the toilet. Washing our hands is good for our wellbeing and keeps germs and infections away.
Our integrated subjects, P.E, Visual Arts, Performing Arts and Mandarin supports our Academic wellbeing.
We do brain gym every day! It helps us to focus, learn co-ordination and gets both sides of the brain working. It is so much fun! Ms Hinkel said, she sometimes gets mixed up and really needs to look carefully to see how the actions are done!
In maths, we have been looking at shapes. We had great fun hunting for all types of shapes in our learning environment and then we had to sort them! We then created lots of shapes using different materials. Some of the shapes were tricky to make, especially the triangle! Can you see what we used to make the shapes with?
We explored and investigated shapes and made shape pictures, solved different ways to fill a hexagon shape with other shapes and made a special shape book.
We have been working on our Daily 5's, read to someone, listen to reading, work on writing, read to self and word work.
We have been choosing all types of activities that have been supporting our wellbeing.
"I like bouncing a ball!" says Kotoha.
"I like to use the ipad," said Riei.
" I want to make a kite because I like kites," said Antoine.
"I want to build a model and it makes me happy," says Athan.
"I like to watch something," said Grace.
" I love painting!" said Sara.
"Building a long train track is so much fun," said Andy.
"I like eating," said Rei.
We have been meditating to help us relax, making peace day wishes for 'Peace Day,' and learning about which food and drinks are healthy and helps our wellbeing. We looked at and discussed what we had for our snack and lunch and were able to say if it was healthy or not healthy. We also sorted lots of food under healthy and unhealthy labels and looked at the 5 food groups pyramid. We have been sorting food into fruit, vegetables, grains, milk and proteins groups. We then made a plan to make a plate of healthy food. We used lots of materials from our classroom to help us fill our plate.
We have been continuing to make our gym in our role play area and it is ready to use. Come and visit our happy gym!
We have been making and continuing patterns using cubes, shape, buttons and arrows.
We have learned how to read to someone and check for understanding. We have to sit in 'EEKK.' This means, 'Elbow to Elbow, Knee to knee.' We look for who is in the story and what they are doing.
UOI-Who We Are
This week, we are have been focusing on, who is responsible for the routines for our wellbeing in school.
We laid out out academic routine cards and had to think about each activity we had drawn and write down on a post it note, who is responsible for each area. First, we thought it was Mrs Hinkel and Ms Aini, but our academic routine cards showed us, it was us. We realised we are responsible for wellbeing at school!
We also shared our feelings about the routines we do at school.
"We all enjoyed them, they made us feel good and it is so much fun!"
We have also been continuing with our role play area, the gym.
In Maths, we have been hunting for patterns in our learning environment. We found so many patterns everywhere! We found colour patterns, shape patterns, word patterns, number patterns and object patterns.
We then created, our own patterns, extended our patterns and described them using objects we found in our room.
UOI - We have been focusing on our wellbeing routines, by looking at how an activity affects us, physically, mentally and academically. We have also been looking at who is responsible at home and at school for our wellbeing using our own routines cards
We chose activities we would like to do, that will help our wellbeing. We thought carefully, about how does this activity make us feel and why do we feel this way? How does it help our well being?
"I want to play Pac-Man," said Sara, Rei, Kotoha, Grace and Riei, "It made us feel sweaty and hot, but it was fun and we felt happy."
"I want to play Teenage Ninja Turtles," said Antoine and Athan.
"I want to do running," said Andy.
We had a great yoga session!
Maths - We have been continuing with measuring length.
Welcome to our K2.1 blog! I'm really looking forward to sharing your child's journey throughout the year!
