This week, we looked at how human action affect other living things by visiting Mr Aik, our security guard who looks after the plants in our school. He showed us what he does to make sure the plants are well cared for at the front of the school. He talked to us about the importance of watering the plants, feeding the plants by giving them fertiliser, using a special spray to get rid of bugs and getting rid of the weeds. All this helps the plants to grow into strong and healthy plants and trees. We had great fun watering the plants! We think Mr is being helpful to the plants by looking after them. We then had a look around the school campus and found plants that we know that Mr Aik looks after and the ones he does not. We noticed that the big trees like the Banyan tree and the field plants are looked after by nature and not Mr Aik. We are responsible for watering the plants in our classroom and the bamboo trees in the little playground. We had a fantastic sunny day for our field trip to Sungei Buloh! It was very exciting and interesting learning about the animals and plants that live in the wetlands reserve. A guide helped us to learn facts about the animals and plants in the Mangrove boardwalk area. We saw bats, monitor lizards, dragonflies, mosquitos, fish, turtle, ants, spiders, crabs and mudskippers. We saw many different types of plants and trees and we learnt about the ginger plant, the coconut trees, the Bamboo trees, the Sea-Hibiscus and the Pong Pong tree that has poisonous fruit that looks like a mango!
