Mathematics Measurement
Going further we estimated and measured objects using non standard units of measurement. Unit of Inquiry: Our school nurse (Nurse Jit) talked to us about the importance of washing hands, washing our body, brushing our teeth, wearing clean clothes to stay healthy. Going further into ways to take care of our body, mind and learning we decided to make a healthy snack. We were to work in three groups. We decided to make Orange Juice, Strawberry Milkshake and Sushi!

Mathematics: We played a game of Bingo to familiarize ourselves further with the language of capacity. Later we had to estimate and find 'how much' (many) beads, pegs or cubes were in our containers. We got to make our own LEMONADE! We had to measure and mix together 1 small spoon FULL of lemon juice, 1 big spoon FULL of sugar syrup and HALF cup of water! The lemonade was so good! We enjoyed making it and learning about capacity! Literacy: Daily 5 We have been learning to sort words phonetically. UOI: Our thought when we were asked, 'How are you responsible for taking care of your body?'
Sports Day
Literacy: Daily 5: I PICK We talked about choosing good fit books by comparing book selection to shoe selection. We talk about how Pete the Cat changed his shoes. Sometimes we change our shoes too. Just like our books! We then looked at things that would help us choose a book: I PICK Purpose: Each pair of shoes has its purpose. We do not wear dress up shoes to go running! Just like choosing which shoes to wear for which activity, we also have a purpose when we choose a book. The purpose for choosing a book may be because we want to learn about a certain topic or just read for fun. Interest: Just like the way our shoes reflect our interests, it is important we pick books that interest us. There are a variety of books, some we may be interested in and some not interested in. We put on large pair of shoes and tried to move around. This is really funny! The shoes do not fit us just like books. Books that are a good fit for one, may not be a good fit for another. Comprehend: Do we understand what we read? Know: We should the words in order for a book to be just right. Measurement
How many drops to fill the dot? We started by counting how many drops of water it took to fill the dots. Since they were all different sizes, it was fun to compare them. Then we wanted to just play around with it. It turned into a fun colour mixing activity too! How many pomp pomps fit in a bottle? We started by estimating how many pomp pomps would fill the bottle. Since they were all soft we could fit so many more! Can you fill it? We played a game on the computer where we had to fill in a big container of water using small containers.
Healthy and unhealthy foods:
We looked at pictures of lots of food and sorted them into healthy and unhealthy foods. Some of the foods we thought were both healthy and healthy so we put them in a middle category.
UOI:
We looked at different ways that we take care of our body , mind and learning. We have been exercising our brain and mind with the Brain Gym activities, practising mindfulness activities. Look what we think about, 'why school is important for our well being.' |
